Terminology Guide

This guide explains the terms used throughout the Dunelshove platform and its documentation. Understanding these terms will help you navigate the system's interface and make the most of the enquiry process.

Platform vocabulary

Terms used in the system

The following terms appear throughout the platform's interface, documentation, and correspondence. Each entry explains what the term means in the Dunelshove context.

Category

A named grouping within the Dunelshove classification hierarchy. Categories are the primary way in which the system organises information. Every item held within the system is assigned to a category, and categories are themselves arranged in a hierarchy that runs from broad topic areas down to specific information types.

Category hierarchy

The organised structure of categories and sub-categories that defines how information is arranged within the system. The hierarchy has multiple levels. At the top level are broad topic areas; below each are more specific sub-categories. Users navigate through this structure to reach the information they are looking for.

Classification

The process of assigning information to the appropriate position within the category hierarchy. Classification is carried out by the system using automated methods, with the team reviewing and correcting assignments where necessary. From the user's perspective, classification is invisible — its output is the organised view of information that the interface presents.

Review interface

The part of the Dunelshove system that users interact with directly. The review interface presents information within a selected category in a consistent, sequential format designed to support careful reading and navigation. Users move through the interface by selecting categories and following internal links between related items.

Enquiry

A request submitted by a user to the Dunelshove team, typically to request access to the review interface, to ask a question about the system's scope, or to seek navigational guidance. Enquiries are submitted through the form on the enquiries page and are reviewed by the team before a response is provided.

Access

In the context of Dunelshove, access refers to a user's ability to navigate and review information within a specified area of the category hierarchy. Access is granted following an accepted enquiry and is accompanied by navigational guidance that helps the user begin in the most relevant part of the structure.

Navigation guidance

Information provided by the Dunelshove team to help a user find their way through the category hierarchy. Navigation guidance is typically included in the response to an accepted access enquiry and explains which top-level categories and sub-categories are most relevant to the user's stated area of interest.

Sequential review

A method of working through information by following a defined order rather than moving freely between items at random. The Dunelshove review interface supports sequential review by presenting items in a consistent order within each category and by linking related items so that users can follow a structured path through a topic.

Sub-category

A category that sits within a broader parent category in the hierarchy. Sub-categories refine the classification of information by identifying more specific subject areas within a general topic. A category may have several sub-categories, and a sub-category may itself have further sub-categories.

Scope

The range of information types and topic areas covered by the Dunelshove system at any given time. The system's scope is defined by the categories it supports and may change as the platform develops. When submitting an enquiry, users are encouraged to describe the scope of the information they wish to review so that the team can confirm whether it falls within the current category structure.

Structured information

Information that has been assigned a defined position within the classification hierarchy. Structured information is the kind of information that the Dunelshove system is designed to hold and present. It contrasts with unstructured information, which has not been classified and is therefore not accessible through the system's category-based navigation.

Support team

The Dunelshove staff responsible for reviewing enquiries, maintaining the category structure, and managing access to the review interface. The support team can be reached at [email protected] or through the enquiry form. They respond to all enquiries individually and do not use automated replies for substantive responses.
